RE: Storing 50A detachable cord

I use a round laundry basket. Just spin the basket and feed the cable in...works in cold weather as well. Easy to carry with the handles on the basket, and like others said, put all of the adapters in the middle of the coil. I also use another basket for the water hose. Probably the single best piece of advice I got during the delivery inspection at the dealer.

RE: Weight Dist. Hitch Question

Folks - Thanks very much for the info. I'll see what details I can get and be back with some more specific questions.

Weight Dist. Hitch Question

Trying to help a buddy get his rig setup for a cross country trip. He needs a weight dist. hitch and has seen some with round and some with square bars. Which is better, and why? I've only had 5th wheel trailers, so I'm just as ignorant as him in this area. Also, if you've got a recommendation about which hitch to get, I'd love to hear it. Thanks!

RE: Family Search ~ 5er with bunkhouse

I've got the Montanna Mountaineer 332pht - three bunks + a sofa bed in the back room. Queen bed up front with a nice inflatable sofa bed in the living room. Plenty of room for a lot of kids. It's 36 ft long, and pretty heavy. I pull it with a Dodge 2500 diesel, it handles it just fine. We've taken several trips in the rig, spent about 2 months in it total since last fall (including ~30 days during a cross country move) and haven't had any significant problems. Overall, very happy with the trailer.

RE: Ooooops, lost my trailer!

I guess McMahon's never heard of the term accident.

RE: 2008 2500 Dodge Diesel Truck

Sandblast: Perhaps you had an extra wrench or two in your tool bag!

RE: 2008 2500 Dodge Diesel Truck

I'd bet 7K is probably pretty close to the truck weight. I've got an 05 dodge 2500, 4 door, 4wd, diesel and it weighed 7020 lbs with me, fuel, hitch, and a small tool bag onboard.

RE: bunkhouse 5th wheel

I've got the Montanna Mountaineer bunk house. Three slides, three bunks in the back room plus a sofa. Inflateable sofa and dinette in the living area - plenty of room for kids and friends. It's 34-ish ft long. We've taken it across country and on several trips ranging from weekends to weeks long with no real issues.

RE: Changing positions on a sliding hitch

I had a similar problem with mine. The rails were a little out of square. Loosen the allen head bolts in the rails and then move the hitch back and forth a few times. Once it moves easily, re-tighten the bolts. And like everyone else said...keep it lubed. I use a silicon spray.

RE: Kingston VS Montana Mountaineer 5th Wheel

I've got an 08 Mountaineer bunkhouse I bought last fall. So far we've spent about a month and a half in it and pulled it about 4K miles. Minor break in issues ( a couple of water line fittings not completely tightened, ceiling fan quit, vent fan quit) that were quickly fixed under warranty. We just got back from a week long trip and the electric element in the water heater quit working, so I've got to get that changed out. Over all, I'm very happy with the trailer.

RE: Help with Reese Sliding Hitch

Thanks to all for the advice. I hope to take a look at it tomorrow in the day light.

Help with Reese Sliding Hitch

I've got my first 5th wheel, had it since Oct 07. So far I've put about 4K miles on the setup and made several trips with the rig. The hitch is a Reese 16K slider that was installed by the dealer when I bought my trailer. It's always been very "stiff" when attempting to slide the hitch. The mechanic that installed even said it was stiff, but it should move a little more freely once it had been used a little. Today I went to park the trailer after a weekend trip, and I couldn't get the hitch to slide. After a few attempts it finally slid, but wasn't smooth. I locked the hitch into the aft position and then while backing up my driveway, it slid foward while locked! The locking bar moves about like it always has, and I'm certain the hitch was all the way back when I locked it. Anyone have any ideas about what's causing the hitch to bind or why it didn't stay locked into the maneuver position? Thanks for the help.

RE: Question about jacks for tire changing.

I've got an aluminum, banana shaped ramp my father-in-law gave me. You drive the good wheel up the ramp and the flat tire follows off the ground. I haven't tried it yet, but he says it works. Two flats on the same side...well I've only got one spare, so I guess I'm not going anywhere anyways!

RE: New to fiver, bedroom heat question

None of the registers on my trailer were adjustable. So I went to Home Depot and purchased replacements that I could adjust for about five bucks each. That made a world of difference in controlling the heat flow and temperature throughout the trailer.
